It was an amazing night at the Old Whaling Church. Speaking alongside former Congressman Patrick Kennedy was wonderful. We have a mutual desire to reduce the stigma and shame associated with mental health and substance abuse disorders. Our efforts raised money for the Joseph Jerome FMemorial Fund of Martha’s Vineyard and the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services New Paths Program.
If you click this link you will be able to listen to my 20 minute speech as posted on Facebook:
And if you click this link you can see the entire 2 hour presentation with Patrick Kennedy as shown on Martha’s Vineyard TV:
The Possible Dreams Auction, that benefits Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, is always one of the highlights of my year!! 10/8/14 -Very excited for the support I am receiving for the book launch this weekend. Here is the press release from Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. October 8, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Mary Korba Tel.: 508-693-7900 x 229 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org Author and photographer Michael Blanchard will launch his new book Fighting for My Life: Finding Hope and Serenity on Martha’s Vineyard at an art show and signing on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 4-6pm. The event will be held at the office of Homes on Martha’s Vineyard, located at Post Office Square (238 Vineyard Haven Rd) in Edgartown. The event is co-sponsored by Edgartown Books and MV Community Services. It is open to the public and food and beverages will be provided. Tjark Aldeborgh, Principal and Sales Associate at Homes On Martha’s Vineyard and friend of Mr. Blanchard will be hosting the event. “I am sincerely grateful to Tjark and his wife for supporting me with this event,” said Mr. Blanchard. “It is wonderful that they will be displaying some of my artwork at the event. The photos are found throughout the book and my photography has been such a significant piece of my recovery.” In the 130 page book published by Vineyard Stories, Michael tells his touching story of addiction and recovery, using his photographs of Martha’s Vineyard to illustrate 16 lessons he learned in his journey through sobriety. His book is intended to raise visibility of the need for substance abuse programs on the Vineyard and other locations. “I met Michael over a year ago when my Real Estate Agency was looking to update its website and was immediately impressed with not only his photography, but also his inspirational journey,” explained Mr. Tjark. “Now that I know Michael better and more of his story, I hope that his new book will help inspire those who are battling addiction. When coming up with the concept for HMV Art Gallery, Michael and his story are exactly what I was looking for – a talented artist and the story behind their art.” A donation of $5 for every book sold will go to Martha’s Vineyard Community Services New Paths Recovery Program, a structured outpatient addiction program on the island for adults who seek alcohol, drug and behavioral addictions recovery and who may also experience co-occurring mental health disorders. Pre ordered copies of the book have already received rave reviews from admirers across the country.
